What is the role of the Design Engineer?

• To take a concept and engineer it into a fully functional article.

What kind of applicant are we looking for?

• Someone with creativity and innovation.
• An engineer with an eye for detail and an ability to interpret the customers and regulatory needs.
• A problem solver who can take an idea and engineer a solution to various targets.
• Academic requirements are minimum 2:1 degree in a Mechanical, Aeronautical or Automotive Engineering discipline or similar.

What does Design Engineering offer to graduates?

• The opportunity to see your ideas through complete lifecycle from concept, design and testing to installation on the aircraft.
• The chance to learn about materials and processes, machining, sheet metal forming, casting, vacuum-forming, composites etc.
• Training in a 3D CAD package.

What are the objectives of the Design Engineering placement?

• 3D model and detail design of a component taking into consideration the selection and application of materials and processes and the integration within the assembly.
• Evaluate the component against customer and regulatory specifications.
• Participate in the validation of the component (prototyping, test, DFMEA).
• Produce drawings for part manufacture.
• Analyse cost and weight.
•  Participate in a Design Review.
